STAMFORD — Police say a woman was stabbed in the abdomen during a domestic dispute with her boyfriend this weekend on the city’s West Side.
Sgt. Brian Butler said police received a 911 call about 3 a.m. Saturday for a dispute at a home in the 30 block of Taff Avenue. When officers arrived, Butler said a woman was lying on the floor “bleeding and screaming” with a stab wound to her abdomen. The woman’s brother, who also lives in the home, was applying pressure to his sister’s wound.
Butler said the woman’s bother told police he was asleep in his room when he heard screaming from outside his bedroom.
The argument, Butler said, was between the woman and her child’s father, Flores Abel, 28, of Stamford.
“Shortly after (the brother heard screaming), the victim came stumbling into his room, screaming with a kitchen knife stuck in her stomach,” Butler said.
Butler said the brother helped lay the woman on the floor and “pulled the knife out of her stomach, which caused her to begin bleeding heavily.” The brother then grabbed a towel and began applying pressure to the wound.
Butler said the woman survived and was taken to Stamford Hospital where she underwent surgery.
Butler said Flores told police he was cooking when he and the victim began arguing over his “possible infidelity.” Butler said Flores told officers the argument escalated to “pushing and shoving” and the woman was “accidentally stabbed.”
A child was present in the home when the incident occurred, Butler said.
Butler said the woman was uncooperative at the hospital and told police she “took the knife from (Flores) and stabbed herself.”
Flores was charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct, carrying a dangerous weapon and risk of injury to a child.
