In what was deemed a surprising decision, McCracken Judge Craig Clymer rejected a plea agreement for two teens, who are accused of discarding a newborn infant in a dumpster last summer, stating the case will instead go to trial.
The baby’s mother, Casside Cherry, now 16, and Trevon Elmore, now 18, face charges of attempted murder, first-degree criminal abuse and tampering with physical evidence. Both appeared in McCracken Circuit
Court Thursday afternoon intending to enter guilty pleas.
Although the details of the plea agreement were not discussed in open court, it was clear by Clymer’s comments that a sticking point for him was the proposed dismissal of the attempted murder charges.
