A Barlow man accused of feeding dogs meat soaked in antifreeze was indicted by a Ballard County grand jury last week. He was arraigned the same day and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Edward Ream, 67, was cited by Ballard County Animal Control and the sheriff's office for animal torture Feb. 7 after law enforcement officials searched his North Adkins Dixon Road home and allegedly found four containers of meat soaking in what they believed to be antifreeze. A half-empty gallon of antifreeze also was allegedly found.
The search was prompted by an anonymous tip, animal control officer James Campbell said.
Ream was placed on administrative leave from his job as a Ballard County school bus driver while the school system began its own investigation, spokeswoman Julie Thomas said.
Ream was charged with torture of a dog or cat with serious injury or death, two counts of attempted torture of a dog or cat with serious injury or death, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, and four counts of second-degree criminal mischief.
He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. April 17 in Ballard Circuit Court.
