Preliminary autopsy results show 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts died as a result of “multiple sharp force injuries,” according to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
Tibbetts, a rising sophomore at University of Iowa, disappeared from Brooklyn, Iowa on July 18. Her body was found Tuesday morning in a cornfield in rural Poweshiek County.
Authorities have arrested 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera, charging him with first-degree murder in Tibbetts’ death. Investigators say Rivera was arrested after he allegedly confessed to the crime and led authorities to Tibbetts’ body.
Bahena is currently being held on a $5 million cash-only bond and is expected to appear in court on August 31.
