Kat Russell is a multimedia journalist currently working as a public safety reporter in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Inspired by journalists such as Marie Colvin, Marcus Bleasdale, Carolyn Cole and Lynsey Addario, Kat pursued degrees in photography and English literature at Santa Monica College and a BA in journalism at California State University, Northridge, where she worked on the school paper for two years as a multimedia reporter and then as the multimedia editor.
In addition to her formal education, Kat has learned much about the world through her solo travels, having visited and worked in more than 20 countries. Most recently she spent five months traveling in Turkey. She speaks some Spanish and a tiny bit of Turkish.
Kat's work is geared mainly toward reporting and writing coupled with documentary photography and multimedia production. Though she has reported on a wide range of topics, from health and education to local and state legislation, Kat's real passion is reporting on crime and the criminal justice system.
