4 in 1st of 2 shootings Wednesday night

A woman was airlifted to Nashville after being wounded in the first of two shootings Wednesday night in Hopkinsville.
The woman was one of four people who suffered gunshot wounds in the first shooting. It happened at about 6:30 p.m. in the 400 block of South Campbell Street, between East Second and East Fourth streets.
Police had not released their names by presstime. None of their injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
The second shooting, which police have characterized as a drive-by, happened around 9:30 p.m. at East Second Street and South Fowler Avenue, behind the McDonald’s on North Drive.
No injuries were reported as a result of the second shooting.
Hopkinsville Police Chief Guy Howie said officers found two of the victims from the first shooting on East Second Street and two more in a car on South Campbell Street, near East Fourth Street.
Howie said it was unclear if the four people were shot in the area that police found them. Howie added that each of the three men who suffered gunshot wounds were hit in the legs while the woman was shot in the hip.
Two of the victims, including the woman, were taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center. The other two arrived at Jennie Stuart in private vehicles. The woman was then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Several people, including children, gathered on East Fourth Street and watched as police talked to witnesses and gathered evidence. Officers blocked off intersections at East Fourth and South Campbell streets, East Second and South Campbell streets and East Second and Vine streets as they investigated the first shooting.
As of 10:30 p.m., the roads were still blocked off while police continued to collect evidence and talk to witnesses.
HPD Officer Edward Eastman said police believe the second shooting involved a red car and a white car and that the gunshots came from the red car and were directed at the people in white car.
Seven shots were fired in all, he said, before both drivers left the scene.
It is unclear if the two shootings have any connection to each other.
Howie said police believe there was more than one shooter in the first shooting, and that one of the shooters was possibly on foot while another could have been in a car.
“It’s way too early in the investigation to determine what happened and why,” Howie said.
